An awful start....
An awful start to the year... the great cartoonist and illustartor Ronald Searle has fled this mortal coil.
Perhaps most famous for his work on St Trinians he grew to despise his creation which accounted only for a very small part of his body of work yet it followed him everywhere.
He was an extraordinary artist and a great satirist.
Captured during the second world war he made records of his grim imprisonment even though he would be punished or even killed should the drawings be found by his captors.
This is a sad day for the world of illustration.
His wit and draughtsmanship will be missed.
